Rainy Day in Portland

There are certain days here in Spring that make all the colors seem supersaturated - that this coincides with cold, spitting rain is a bit of a necessary inconvenience.

I've been quite busy lately, working on a major shop update. I've also been creating a great deal of yarn in bright shades with deep texture and luster - I have gotten a gorgeous hoard of local Lincoln wool, courtesy of my new friends at Growing Seeds Farm, twenty miles away in Corbett, OR. I was lucky enough to be invited to a sheep shearing there last week, which I must say, was a very cool and interesting experience (which I fully intend to document - stay tuned).

This is a cowl I'm working on which some of that Lincoln, plus a touch of Llama from the same farm. I'm loving the bright, crayola colors and quirky, unpredictable mix of stripes. I'm hoping to list a whole batch of these cowls sometime in the not too distant future. They are incredibly warm, will wear wonderfully, and each one is unique and unreproducible.

The work in progress is accompanied by a toy llama that I picked up a few months ago in Santiago. Just seemed fitting.

Cold, isn't it?

New and pretty things...

Huzzah! I've just added a number of bright and shiny new necklaces to my shop! Check it out over here

And, bonus, here are a few shots of the handspun that I also added recently. All of the new yarns can be found over here

Thick and Thin BFL.

Natural and dyed local Shetland, and a 'lil bit of llama.

Progress--Jewelry Line

Here are some of my favorites of the prototypes/early pieces that I've come up with (in the MAC Jewelry Production class). There are a lot of different elements, but I feel that they are combined well. I do have a more is more aesthetic, after all.

Recycled leather scraps, bits of fabric, hand-fabricated copper, wire-core BFL, alpaca and pygora.

Copper, faux bone, leather scraps, BFL, sterling silver.

The pendant is layered mixed metal, with a bezel set wooden strawberry in the center. The clasps and connections are hand-wrapped in brass, with twisted sterling for the bail. The "chain" is many strands of my handspun, from a carded batt of mohair, merino, BFL, lincoln locks and sari silk strands. I discussed this specific handspun project over here, if you're curious.

New labeling: the crazy-bright line

Just a little something new to look forward to, in the shop

I've for sure been spinning

I took just some ounces of that lovely super wash BFL roving I dyed earlier, and turned into this:

So, look for some soft, luscious, bulky, textural BFL handspun to show up in the shop, with soonness.

Handspun Yarn: A Sunny Day

Two skeins of handspun blue and yellow yarn, with flecks of black and pink. It's quite bulky, and dramatically thick 'n thin.

Materials include mohair, wool, uncarded locks and merino.  Everything is hand dyed and hand carded, and soft and squishy. I'm very happy with how this batch came out--my goal was to create something bright, sunny and happy, and I feel like that came through well!

In total, there are 100 yards and 6.1 ounces. It's listed over in my Etsy Shop, too.

Some recycled, hand dyed yarn, of late

I've been working on taking some photos of my hand-dyed, recycled yarns. These are incredibly fun to make, and I'm excited to offer them over at my shop. They are dyed with professional quality acid dyes, and I only use super high quality fibers. Hand dyed yarn is always a treat, no?
